Some time today, the preview pane in my Eudora 7.1.0.9 went blank. It's
still there, it just has nothing in it. In order to see mail, I have to
double-click on it in the top where incoming mail headingss are listed.
I will admit that a cat was wandering around, and they do like to
reset things, but I have not been able to find any setting to set to see
the preview in the preview pane where it was until it stopped being there.

Do any of you know how to turn this back on?

There is no setting to turn the text on or off for the Preview Panel.

Does this happen with all your mailboxes? or just with a particular
one? What is your operating system? Have you tried rebooting your
computer?

Thanks, Ajo. It happened to all of them, pretty much all at once.
First the Inbox, then I went to look in another mailbox and saw the last
email I'd read in the preview pane, checked another email in the same
box and it was all blank, even when I went back to the one I'd seen.

OS is XP Pro. Haven't rebooted yet, but will. Did shut down Eudora and
reopen it. Checked the Options, everything looks OK there. Found out
about the F7 key removing the pane and putting it back but that made no
difference to the content.

The busy little cat had just walked over the keyboard, which is what
made me suspect there was a key somewhere that did this. I'm not sure
what part of the keyboard she trod on, though. I'm going to have to
send her to computer school.

I'll go reboot, and see if that does the trick. It's Mr. Gates' panacea.

Good thing it wasn't the quick brown fox!

For every one of life's little problems, however,
someone is busy working on a solution:

No mention, however, of how to stop her
from clicking and dragging the mouse, nor biting off its tail :)

Yes, that program has been around a long time -- there must be demand!
It's clever, too, but I'm not sure if it would confuse some of my
ham-fisted typing for cat input. I do have a can of air here and
sometimes use it on one or another of the cats when my patience is
tried. Lately, though, the quizical one is the only trespasser.

No mouse. I use a trackball. Which gets knocked down sometimes and
then I have to find the big red ball and put it back. I seize the
opportunity to remove the lint clumps, too.

That did it. Reboot and it's all back. Still wish I knew why, but it's
good to have preview. Some email it's better to never open. ;-)

Thanks!

I suggested it because it sounded as a memory problem, though that's not
supposed to happen with XP. But sometimes there's quite some leeway
between what's supposed not to happen and the reality. A glitch like
that may still occur when you have left your computer on for a
considerable time.

Perhaps for this time no feline is to blame ;-)

Please provide evidence to support that claim, including links.

Who says it's not supposed to happen? Microsoft? ROTFL!

She's off the hook. This time. I'm sure she'll find something else.
She is one of those true challenges - a cat who showed up at the door
(after scoping me out for about three weeks) and announced that she was
willing to move in. She's a black tortoiseshell with a line down the
center of her face -- black on one side, gold on the other. I think she
has some Siamese in her because she brings me toys to throw so she can
bring them back to me. To throw. So she can bring them back. To throw....

He prefers indoors but I don't pay him to lounge inside. I pay him to
guard the property which he is very good at. Occasionally a squirrel
will get too close and he goes after it. Squirrels flattened while you
wait.

That is wise of you since everyone knows that when squirrels get too
close, they steal your immortal soul and take it to the Squirrel
Swap-Meet, where they trade it for larger RAM and better sound drivers.

That's what it is? I've had it get TOC problems before. A lot. Don't
know if it was this version or previous ones, just have lots of memories
of TOC messages and rebuilding and strange ? on the side of lines that
should only have a dot. Eudora. What a love-hate relationship.

You likely have corrupted index file, called <name>.TOC (table of
contents).

Open the IN.MBX file in a text editor to see all the message in
sequence. Close it and delete IN.TOC which will force Eudora to make a
new one when you open IN with Eudora.

In the good old days of version 3.0.5, Eudora had a dialog box which
asked you how you wanted to repair the TOC. I have not seen it on 7.1
so they may have done away with it.

I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM BY DOING WHAT ANOTHER BOARD SAID. LOOK AT YOUR IN, OUT, AND TRASH BOXES. MY IN BOX HAD 55,000 MESSAGES. i JUST REDUCED THE SIZE TO 10,000 BY MOVING MESSAGES TO OTHER FOLDERS AND - POOF! PROBLEM SOLVED.
