Hi, I would like to be able to import all my emails

from this gmail account to Mailwasher and Eudora 7.1.0.9 - Paid Mode [104]. This is the email setup I have maintained through XP, 2000, Vista, Win7 and now Win10. I have all my emails since 2002 all filed in a nested set of 1193 mailboxes distributed across many folders and I can't bear the thought of trying to changeover to something new.

My problem has been caused by having to change my 20 year old email addresses because my former ISP couldn't service me in the remote area of South Australia I have just moved to so I had to change to a new ISP which doesn't offer e-mail addresses, only the satellite link to the internet. My former ISP is going to cut off my old email (***@iprimus.com.au) in about two weeks as they don't offer an email only access; I have to get this sorted fast - I have about 260 logins linked to my old email address and I need to get them all notified before I get cut off!

I haven't put any technical details in this first communication because I have gotten so confused trying to research this on my own that I just don't know what to do,
Yours Sincerely,
Kaelkitty.

Sorry but I'm not quite sure what the problem actually is.
If all your e-mails are stored in Eudora they won't be affected by you having to change e-mail provider.
All you'll have to do is set up a new personality on Eudora from your new provider, existing personalities can just be left there, although even if you deleted them that wouldn't affect the messages associated with them. I've had to change e-mail address twice in the past, and I've still got all my messages in Eudora going back to 1997!
If the messages you're concerned about are stored only on your old provider's servers, you will need to download them to Eudora before you lose them, but hasn't that happened already when you first read them?

This doesn't sound like a Eudora problem.

It sounds like you've created logins/accounts at 260 different places
and are about to have a big problem because the email address you used
for all 260 is about to be cancelled.

If so, you need to set up a new email address somewhere - like Gmail,
Yahoo, Hotmail... as examples of free services that don't care where
you log in from. Anyhow, get a new email address somewhere that
DOESN'T have a reputation for not playing well with an old legacy app
like Eudora (Gmail would be my last choice), then log in to each of
the 260 accounts using the old address and change the login to the new
address. You'll probably receive a confirmation you'll need to reply
to at one or both of the addresses so you need to maintain the old
address until this process of 260 changes is completed... which
suggests that you better get busy.

To be realistic, I bet you'll find that many/most of these 260 logins
are no longer really needed. Wherever continuity isn't absolutely
necessary, I bet you'll find you can just create a new login (if and
when needed) and cancel or more likely just abandon the old one. If
they don't have any sort of payment info - like credit card - I'd just
abandon them and create new ones if/when I needed to. Your choice of
course, but I'd give priority to changing or canceling the ones that
have your payment info. Next would be social media sites where a
circle of friends are tied to the existing account. You might find the
rest can be abandoned and recreated if needed.

Bottom line... it isn't a Eudora problem... and you better get busy if
a login THREU THE OLD ISP is required to change the login info. Some
places can be very fussy about changing login info involving an email
address at ISP X if you try to log in via ISP Z. Your new satellite
access is ISP Z.

Don't forget to notify all your friends of your new email address.
Maybe more than once. I'd do that by sending the notice from the new
address.

In some ways, it's best to send it from the _old_ address: that way you
can pick up the ones that reply saying "sure, Fred, I'll update my
address book" - and do it by hitting "reply", which means they _won't_
do it. Include in your notification email "please send me an email when
you've made the change".

More than once? Sure. Some will need telling many times.

Keep a list of those you've told, and by each log when you told them,
what address you told them to use, and when you got an email from them
to the old address.

Either configure your system to bounce emails sent to the old address if
it can, or make up a pretend bounce message you can send them manually.

There will also be those who don't know how to use their address book.
(Usually identifiable by every email you get from them being a reply to
an earlier email from you - as that's the only way they know how to
contact you. This is commoner than you'd think!)

I don't want to keep all my future e-mails on the gmail server, I want them to go to Eudora on my PC, in the same way that my old emails have always done!

I found this post on-line: https://www.lifewire.com/what-are-the-gmail-imap-settings-1170852

By "future" emails, I assume you mean ones that have not been sent yet.
If that is not the case, please explain. If that _is_ the case, then the
only way it can happen is for you to tell anyone who might send you an
email, to use your new address. (This includes not only people and
companies, but also automated systems that will send confirmation emails
to your old address. This is to stop anyone taking over your emails
without your consent.)

(I didn't know there _was_ a Eudora 8!)

Are you sure you're using IMAP with "iprimus"? If you have always used
just the one device - your PC (and not any 'phones, or other PCs) - to
collect from iprimus, and have been doing so for some years, then I
suspect you might have been using POP (sometimes called POP3) to collect
emails from iprimus, rather than IMAP.

gmail support both POP and IMAP for email collection, though they don't
make it easy (for either protocol). In particular, if you want to use an
older client like Eudora, you have to - once - change a setting in the
gmail web interface to "allow more insecure clients" (or something like
that).

Sorry to add further complication!

Yes, sorry for the misunderstanding!
The so-called "Eudora 8", which was actually called "Eudora OSE", was an attempt to update Eudora 7 after Qualcomm abandoned it.
It was pretty useless as it didn't work like Eudora at all, and was based on a version of Thunderbird which was already out of date!
I would be very surprised if there's anyone still using it. "Pandora" is the current attempt to replicate Eudora, but as Eudora is still working OK for me, I've seen no reason to try it.

So, you need to replace your dominant personality on Eudora with your Gmail account.
What I would do in your position is to create a new personality, perhaps called "old iprimus", and replicate all the settings from your old dominant personality there. This means you still have that personality to use until it finally stops working, at which point you can delete it if you want to.
Then edit the settings in the dominant personality to match the requirements of your new Gmail account.
If you Google "Gmail settings" you should find them listed in quite a few places as it's commonly used.
That should be it. If there is an overlap between your old e-mail system going offline and your new Gmail system coming online, you can then use both accounts during that period. When the iprimus account stops working, either just uncheck "check mail" in its properties so it doesn't throw error messages when you check for mail, and forget about it, or just delete it. Deleting it won't remove any messages.
HTH. Cheers, Dave.
