Post by Rick CCan you refresh my memory? What was wrong with the "aborted attempt" to recreate Eudora through T-bird? I even gave T-bird a try by using it for newsgroup viewing. Eventually it failed and I couldn't fix it so I switched to Seamonkey which is based on the same code base, but it too failed eventually, so I'm using Google groups now.
For newsgroups, I'd recommend Forte Agent (though it needs a patch for
timed filter expiration to work -- the last official build couldn't handle
expiration dates past something about two years back).
The "aborted attempt" was basically just a skin on top of Thunderbird
-- and many did not like how the underlying Thunderbird operated.
Post by Rick CGlad I stuck with Eudora for email.
http://www.drivehq.com/web/brana/pandora.htm is a pretty close
work-alike for Eudora, though it does still have some glitches. The paid
version is required to import multiple personalities, signatures, etc. from
Eudora. I've been using it for almost two years now.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/ is an effort to modernize
the (finally) released code base of Eudora itself, replacing the $$$
libraries. It's still considered an "alpha" build state. NOTE: that site
also has updated certificate and SSL library for Eudora, which helps
mitigate the hassle of following certificate chains and approving each new
certificate.
