Hi all,
This is my second attempt to post this. The first one seems to have got lost
in the system.

I'm running Eudora 7.1.0.9 in paid mode.

Every now and then on start-up I get a popup window telling me to check out
new versions of Eudora.
Is there any way to stop this popup ?

I have a screenshot uploaded here:

Thanks for any help.

I've just tried this to stop the update notification, but the
instruction "...you can click on a URL in a new message..." is
confusing to me; how is this actually done?

Thanks for any help with this...

Do you mean just click onto "<X-Eudora-Option:DontShowUpdates>" once
it's been typed into the body of a new message?

List:

I was able to do it finally; when I had typed the statement into the
body of a new message, it did NOT show up as a URL!

It was only when I copied & pasted it in, that it did show up as a
URL...

A little weird, but I got it done...I'm really sure I made no errors
in typing it in....

It was only when I copied & pasted in [an X-Eudora-Option link]
that it did show up as a URL
The instructions did say to copy and paste it in,
but if you manually type any URL, you should also find
that Eudora will wait until a terminal "newline" is typed,
before prematurely considering it to be completed.

Re X-Eudora-Option links, instructions for which appear
in the first "NOTE" of any Release Notes, or at:
http://www.eudora.com/download/eudora/windows/7.1/RelNotes.txt

Incidentally, even in Thunderbird, or in any of my installed web browsers
(Opera, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer),
clicking any of these "URL-like" links (registered as a "protocol")
causes Eudora to be called to "open" them,
and the very same option-setting dialog then pops up in Eudora.

You can find planty of these "links" to try in web browsers
at this web page, which also documents many (but not all) of the options:

http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/ini.html

For a complete list of all recognized options in 7.1,
compiled by Jim Higgins, see:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.mail.eudora.ms-windows/msg/a4fb742b3f152bf7

In most cases, as you might surmise, the end result is to store or adjust
the option name which follows the colon [:] of the "protocol,"
along with the value being set, in file Eudora.ini,
most often in the main [Settings] section
(with a few exceptions that are stored elsewhere).

These "links" permit you to perform this while Eudora is running,
and also to view default values and "help" for those which have help;
otherwise you would have to terminate Eudora and manually edit Eudora.ini

Javascript-based Mozilla-related programs
often recognize an about:config URL ( opera:config in Opera )
to access and set every possible internal option,
so it should not seem so strange that Eudora
has a built-in mechanism that can also set any possible internal option,
provided you save a copy of Jim Higgins' list from the above location,
as a message in some Eudora mailbox.

Most Eudora options take effect immediately,
though a very few require restarting Eudora.

John:

That is exactly what I was doing wrong; in my haste to do it to it, I
simply didn't hit "enter"....

Thanks!

I am using Win 7 64 bit and Eudora 7.1.0.9

Eudora was running and all I did was click on the original entry
<X-Eudora-Option:DontShowUpdates=1> in Robert's post (which was clickable)
and a "Launch Application" message box for Eudora opened where I clicked
"OK"
and then a "Change Option" box opened in Eudora showing what was to happen.

In fact you could do it now and the "Change Option" should be from "1"
to "1" if it completed before.
