Yesterday after about 20 years of using Eudora, my charter.net
accounts began not being able to send or receive email. Of course
Charter rep didn't have any idea what Eudora is, and said all is good
in their area and I can receive and send on their site.

I'm using Windows 10 and Eudora 7.1.09 paid
I get the message: SSL negotations failed. The connection to the
server has been lost Cause (1)

Settings are: ***@charter.net
smtp.charter.net for incoming
pop.charter.net for sending

if available, startls

They said they haven't changed anything on their end, and I've had the
same settings for years. All of my other account work fine. (gmail,
yahoo)

If anybody could help with this, I would appreciate it

thanks

Have you checked the "last SSL info" on both incoming and outgoing
(after getting the failure, of course). Possibly a certificate update
(which they wouldn't consider "something new or changed" -- it's regular
procedure, just at fairly long intervals [unless you are Google -- then
it's as often as possible <G>]).

Try installing the updated SSL library for Eudora (found on the Hermes
Messenger site https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/files/

After calling spectrum tech support several times and being assured
that they hadn't changed anything on their end so it was my problem,
the service mysteriosly started working correctly again.

Obviously they found the thing they had not changed and changed it back to what it was before they didn't change it.
