Hi, I use Eudora 7.1 and I have several katamail.com accounts but they
don't download the mails anymore. Unbelievable but true. I configured
them with pop.katamail.com and smtp.katamail.com
What should I do toget the mails again? Has anything changed in the
parameters? Thanks

"no longer works" is uninformative... as is "don't download".

How are the personalities configured?

What does the log file say? (Set logging options for all bytes
sent/received -- if you don't have logging options, install the esoteric
plugin, make the settings; then tell Eudora to fetch new messages; exit
Eudora, open log file)

C:\Users\Wulfraed>type %appdata%\Qualcomm\Eudora\eudora.log

{though using an editor may be easier to search}
C:\Users\Wulfraed>notepad %appdata%\Qualcomm\Eudora\eudora.log

If you post extracts from the log, make sure you obscure the password
responses (they are easily converted from the notation in the log file,
especially if "PASS" protocol is used).
{I have four personalities, so I've filtered the log to just one thread ID
-- this is from the connect, login, check for messages, and logoff}

What does your log show for such a sequence.

https://imapsmtp.email/katamail-smtp-imap-email-settings.html shows
katamail using port 465 -- but that port number is deprecated
(https://www.mailgun.com/blog/which-smtp-port-understanding-ports-25-465-587
). So sending may require setting "required, alternate port"

That site also claims katamail to be using port 993 for inbound mail --
but port 993 is assigned to IMAP, not POP. POP3 secure is on port 995
(NOTE: they do run a POP3 server on port 110 - and STLS might be STARTTLS,
so configuring the inbound as POP, "If available, STARTTLS", and *
passwords might suffice [APOP is not shown in the capability list

C:\Users\Wulfraed>telnet pop.katamail.com 110

Connection to host lost.

I can't validate the outgoing mail -- only port 465 responds, and it
wants to use SSL encryption so I don't get any text.

https://pepipost.com/blog/25-465-587-2525-choose-the-right-smtp-port/
"Don’t use port 465, because this port is no longer an accepted standard
for SMTP."

Given the above (and testing in Pandora as it reveals ports for
options).

POP, password, if available STARTTLS (should use port 110)
SMTP, authorization? (try with/without), REQUIRED ALTERNATE PORT

Generic Properties
Email address: ***@katamail.com
User Name: ***@katamail.com
SMTP Server: mail.tin.it
Secure Socket when sending: Never

Incoming mail
Server: pop.katamail.com
Configuration: POP (checked)

When I chek for new emails I get this error:

I'm not an expert and I can't verify other settings, sorry.
I only know those settings worked well some time ago.

How are the personalities configured?
Generic Properties
SMTP Server: mail.tin.it
Secure Socket when sending: Never
That implies you submit the mail using a different server, not directly
to a katamail server -- unless tin.it owns katamail. You might need a relay
personality using the tin.it account.
Post by i***@jejejeje.it
Incoming mail
Server: pop.katamail.com
Configuration: POP (checked)
Secure Socket when checking: Never
I'd still suggest trying "If available, STARTTLS"
Post by i***@jejejeje.it
ERR Account is temporarily unavailable
That error normally would imply the problem is at the server end. You'd
have to talk to them.

Hey, have just created a new account with "gmx.com". It is able to
check the emails but it is not able to send emails.
I configured it in this way:
SMTP SERVER: smtp.gmx.com
POP: pop.gmx.com
When I try to send an email I get this error:
ERROR Talking to SMTP Server (554 smtp205.alice.it Service not
available).
Why do I have this problem?
Thanks

I have a strong suspicion that, by this time, you have multiple

ERROR Talking to SMTP Server (554 smtp205.alice.it Service not available).
This is not the same server you stated to have set up...
The recipient could have an alice.it address or some other address
for which the MX RR points to smtp.alice.it. The error message would
then be the one received in the on-the-fly connection by smtp.gmx.com
to smtp.alice.it (which itself could be a cluster).
The "service not available" could be the final result of a number of
failed attempts to connect to smtp.alice.it, but it could also denote
"mail is spam" or "sender IP blacklisted". The problem with 554 is that
it has always been (ab)used as a last resort where no other 5xx really
applies. The same goes for "service not available". The best explanation
I've seen sofar is "The transaction failed. Blame it on the weather".

Hi Piet,
thanks for your reply. Sometimes I put another ser4ver when the
proprietary senrver desn't work. When I put "out.alice.it" on SMTP
gmail server, it works fine.

Now I changed the settings to my "gmx.com" account, now I put
"smtp.tiscali.it" and "pop.tiscali.it", but it doesn't work again.
Maybe do I have to enter to the Tiscali web site and enjoyTiscali?

Anyway doing some search I'm noticing I have to choose 465 Port.
How can I choose the 465 Port in Edudora? I don't see this option.
Thanks

You can't just mix&match servers. If you really have a gmx.com email
account (***@gmx.com) you MUST use that as the login name for gmx.com
servers.

If you just change the server name, you'll fail because the login name
is not used for that server.

Connection mode: REQUIRED, ALTERNATE PORT
Though if the servers don't want SSL/TLS, that may be a problem. Per the
IANA, 465 is not supposed to be used anymore for SMTP submittal, and when
it was, it was an SSL wrapper around SMTP
