Hmm. This just happened to me for the first time ever (so, like over 20 years of use), too.

I used Tools -> Options -> Attachments and set it to a new attachments folder.

It did end up removing all the email that was on the server during the Check Email operation where it happened.

I had read many years ago that Eudora keeps the Inbox in memory at all
times. Since I read that I never leave any emails in the Inbox. I have
a filter set to move all Inbox emails to a special folder.

I never tested this theory but my Eudora runs smooth expect for a
delay when it gets Gmail. I am running the latest patch for Eudora so
I don't have to runn Stunnel any more.
