Discussion:
Are you able to install Eudora on Win 10?

Hi, I need to install Eudora 7.1 but on the new laptop with Windows 10
but it is impossible.
I get this panel. I attach a photo:
Loading Image...
I put the "Change Account Control Settings" slider all the way down
(so it's disabled) but I always get the same problem. Unable to
install Eudora.
Is there a possibility to be able to do this?
Thank you for some info.

I don't speak/read whatever that is, and since it is an image I can't
cut&paste into a translation program...

My best guess is that it asks you to run the installer using the
administrator account.

I'm also not familiar with any "Change Account Control Settings" slider
-- My Win10 (and even old Win7 laptop) systems run with the full UAC
security level.

And yes, I have Eudora 7.1 installed on Win10 (but for the last two
years I've been using Pandora http://www.drivehq.com/web/brana/pandora.htm

Alternatively, it might be that you have Eudora configured in a way
that it tries to ensure it is the default email application. Win10 moved
the registry location that holds default application information. You have
to turn off the Eudora check for default, and use the OS control panel to
define Eudora as the default for email.

It seems to me not honest.
Do you know if even today you pay for all subsequent versions?

You pay for major version changes... Just like you had to do with
Eudora when it was being developed.

Based on my log in Quicken, I have only had to pay twice -- the
original in March 2018 (version 2.x), and for an upgrade in March 2019
(version 3.x -- all the point updates have been automatic, currently on
3.6.6.1. What I did not like was that there was no notification that the
"automatic" upgrade that changed from 2.x to 3.0 needed a new payment).

I have a blind friend who has moved from Eudora to Pandora (and paid for
it); we're still getting used to its wrinkles, but I think she likes it.

You can use it for free - I forget what the limitation is; I think it's
that you can have only one personality.

My blind friend's husband (also blind) is running Eudora - not Pandora -
fine under Windows 10; I don't know if he installed it under 10, or just
let his machine upgrade from 7 to 10 (I know he did that) and Eudora
continued to work.

Your problem might also be that Eudora is trying to install in a
folder that Windows 10 does not allow proper access.I seem to remember
this being an issue with the INI file.

Do a Google search on problems installing Eudora on a new Win 10
computer.

Search for: problems installing Eudora on Win 10 computer,
you should get over 700k of hits, so this is a fairly common issue.

I normally never install Eudora on a new computer. I just copy the
complete folder that Eudora is in from my old computer to a new
computer. Then I create a new Shortcut on the desktop. However, if you
had it working on Windows 7, most likely you cannot use that same
folder on Windows 10 due to the way Win 10 protects certain folders.

I installed Eudora maybe 2 years ago on my new pc with Win10 pre-installed.
Under the special and only account that has administrator rights. Didn't
run into any problem. All other users on my pc have limited rights only.
That, plus the fact that I consider mailer, browser, etc. profiles to be
*user* data that don't belong on the system partition, was reason to copy
the Eudora profile to the resp. user sections on a non-system partition.
Works like a charm for all of them.

Used to be: one personality, one signature, one stationery, one

2.7.7 Limited to one Search per session
1.5.2 no longer limited to one filter
1.3.1.3 limited to one label

Still a few quirks -- and I just sent a bug report in that my copy has
suddenly stopped automatic processing of Junk mail, and even defined
filters with [move to junk] aren't working (other filters seem okay). It
seems strange as the last update was April 2... Might be related to recent
Windows update, which also corrupted Acrobat Reader (I had to uninstall
Reader, download the off-line installer, and run that to get Reader to open
again). Might try a fresh installer copy for Pandora...

Hmmm, just downloaded, reinstalled, and opened Pandora -- and at least
one junk message did get processed; don't know if that was before the
install, or as part of the fetchmail after restarting it.

I created a new Administrator account, but it is impossible to install

I believe it is time to abandon Eudora for a newer program. What a

Non hai capito. Non serve un nuovo account, serve che lanci

installare alcunché.

I have copied / pasted all of Eudora to another laptop. All emails
work fine but not yahoo.com
On the main PC I had deleted the yahoo account with Thunderbird and
then I had created it again.
All this is strange because on the main PC the account with yahoo.com
works fine, but not on the second computer.
Why? Yet in the second computer Eudora is perfectly the same as the
main PC. How can I solve the problem?
Thank you

Execution blocked by administrator. Apparently you don't have
administrator rights when you try to install it. Right-click
on the .exe file and choose "Run as administrator" ("Esseguire
come amministatore", I guess).

And after installation, set Eudora as the default mail program
*via the control panel*.

And next time use Google Translate to translate Italian text

This sounds like you don't have true admin rights on the computer (was
it provided by some company? If so, the IT department may have set up some
special group policy to prevent user installs/runs of non-approved
software).

However...

Allora non sei l'amministratore.
Il computer è tuo? Controlla meglio l'account che stai usando.
Altrimenti se la risposta è no, chiedi al tuo sysadmin.
La risposta migliore comunque resta buttare nel cesso Winshit 10.

Ultima soluzione, fai come me: Eudora funziona benissimo anche

Well I'm glad you fixed it, but it's still strange that it wouldn't install for you normally.
There's no fundamental problem installing and using Eudora on Windows 10, I am and I know many others are too.
Are you logged on to Windows 10 as an administrator?
That's the only other thing I can think of which might have caused the error message you were getting, your user account didn't have the necessary rights.

Yes of course, I tried as Administrator, both by creating a new
administrator account and by trying to install it with the right mouse
button on the file as administrator. But both options are unmanaged.
Eudora is strange.
Another thing I can't solve is that on the second computer Eudora

OK, you can check that the Hermes patch is working by doing a mail check and then looking in the properties for your Eudora personality.
If you click on "last SSL info" it should show that it attempted a connection using TLSv1.2.
If it still says TLSv1 the Hermes patch isn't doing its job.
The only thing left is that you may well need to generate an "application specific password" for that installation.
Did you do that for the other computer that's working?
You need to go to the Yahoo webmail page with your browser, log in and look at your settings, and look in the security section.
In there, there should be an option to generate a password for what they consider now to be an insecure client.
When you've got the password (it will be four blocks of four numbers) you will need to use it in Eudora instead of your normal password.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Qualcomm\Eudora

When you say "Eudora foder" (folder), WHICH directory are you referring
to?
C:\Program Files (x86)\Qualcomm\Eudora
... which is also where the vcredist.exe is located in my version as a
safety. Did you read the README.TXT file that comes with that ZIP file for
the instructions?
Hey friend, thanis so much for your help, but I have to tell you I
have solved my problem.
My problem was wit yahoo passwords. I went into yahoo web site and I
changed the passwords and not eerything works fine.
Have a good day.

The trick to installing Eudora on Win10 is, to put it into its own folder in the root directory instead of program files. C:\\Eudora
Run setup as administrator.
Win10 will want to put email files and attachments in its user directories, so you have to find them and move them to the C:\\Eudora folder, and I think you need to edit the eudora.ini file to point to the moved directories.

I do not recall all the details, I found the instructions online but it was a year or two ago.

And none of that is needed... I've run Eudora on Win10 since my Win7
drive failed and I had to buy Win10 and a new drive to recover.

The ONLY trick is that you have to use Windows "default programs" to
set Eudora as the email client, AND you have to turn off any option inside
of Eudora that attempts to check and set itself as default. Reason: Win10
(and likely Win7) moved the registry entry that defines default programs --
Eudora is still trying to write to the old location, which is not used by
the OS..

From my shortcut properties:
TARGET: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe"
START IN: <blanked out, no content>

The shortcut was created in December 2016 (just shy of five years ago),
and modified July 2017 (probably to blank out START IN).

Have you tried right clicking on the installation file and selecting "run as administrator"?
Yes, I tried it but it didn't work.
I solved that problem installng Eudora with Revo Unistaller.
Hello Ijones, could you describe how you used Revo to install Eudora? I too am stuck installing, being blocked by Windows 10.

Thanks, Alwyn
